Nikos Tours To The Islands Of Poros, Spetses & Hydra
With Pegasus Cruises

Special Daily Island Cruise Excursion Packages:

Daily visits to the spectacularly beautiful islands of Poros, Spetses and Hydra are a thrilling experience for any visitor to Greece. In conjunction with Pegasus Cruises, Nikos Tours brings you the splendor of the Sardonic Islands - "The old fashioned way!"

Poros is a volcanic island created from the joining of the Kalavria and Sveria masses. It is separated from the Argolid prefecture of Peloponesse region only by a very narrow body of water. The ancient ruins of the Temple of Poseidon are found 5 km from the main town, on the road to the monastery of Zoodochos Pighis. The temple was built in 6th century B.C. and according to legend, is where Dimosthenis drank the "konio" poison and died.

The town of Poros is built in keeping with theGreek coastal tradition featuring festive blue and white colors. On the road to Neorio there are numerous small inlets with sandy beaches and pine trees which almost reach the sea. Approaching from the sea, visitors are afforded an unforgettable view. On the other side of the town, small boats take visitors to Argolida, where there are many large lemon orchards.

Spetses is located at the entrance of the Argolikos bay. The island has been inhabited since 2,000 B.C. where clay utensils and idols have been found among the ancient ruins at Agia Marina. In ancient times the island was called "Pytiousa" because it was covered with pine trees. Today, the island is famous for its unique architecture and picturesque mansions. Also of note is its landscape, with its beautiful combination of pine trees, rocks, sand and sea. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the island and the most popular means of transportation are horses, donkeys and bicycles.

The most famous sites are the Mansion of Bouboulina, the heroine of the 1821 revolution and the Mansion of Mexis. Among the beaches on the island, the most well known are Agii Anargyri and Agia Paraskevi.

Hydra is known as a cultural center playing an important role in Greek history. In the 18th century, this rocky island was referred to as "Small England" due to its affluent maritime trade. Large mansions have survived from this period and are featured as an important part of the characteristic architecture found throughout the island.

For those who love cultural art, Hydra is a famous attraction where many galleries, small churches and monasteries can be found. The most famous of which are the Prophet Ilias, Agia Matrona and Agia Triada. There are beautiful beaches on the west end of the island at Kaminia, Molos and Vlichos. A cruise around the island provides the visitor with unforgettable views of its numerous small inlets and harbours. Like Spetses, motor vehicles are also prohibited on this island.
